This workshop, taught by market gardener and educator Adam Willson, teaches the business side of operating an organic market garden. This is the second of a two-day training about organic market gardening.  Participants can enrol in one or both days. 

 Topics include:

  • Profit and loss statements (projected and actual)
  • Managing cash flow and labour throughout the year
  • Marketing your product
  • Wholesale prices compared to retail
  • Wholesale price changes throughout the year
  • Options for direct selling: Farmers’ Markets, Online, On farm, Community Supported Agriculture
  • Time sheet record keeping
  • Business operating costs
  • The effect of price on profitability
  • Market gaps
  • Point-of-sale equipment
  • Data collection, collation and review of sales

Enrolment is essential. The cost per day is $80 and includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
