Connecting Rural Women in the Landscape is the focus of a workshop that is being held on Wednesday 29 April. The one-day workshop, specifically designed for rural women will be held at the picturesque Tumut Racecourse in Southern NSW.

The forum brings together a wide range of inspiring presenters, covering some of the complex issues and challenges facing rural women.

“The workshop aims to provide an opportunity to form networks and access information on relevant topics facing rural women,” said Riverina Local Land Services Officer, Cherie White.

“The day will focus on issues that affect rural women on a day-to-day basis with topics to include communication, farm safety, career matters, mental and physical health and wellbeing.”

Speakers on the day include:

  • Opening address from Sarah Roche, Regional Manager of Graincorp on the Changing and Complex Role of Rural Women
  • Edwina Beveridge, Blantyre Farms and Runner Up NSW Rural Womens Award. Edwina’s has an inspiring story regarding innovation in the pig industry and whole of farm sustainability.
  • Lisa Green, Career Matters - Career & Lifestyle Coaching.  Lisa through her program Eat Cake and Have It Too has will be helping women to Get What You Want in Life.
  • Heather Jamieson, Womens Health Nurse will be discussing the health and wellbeing changes and challenges women face as they age.
  • Adelong farmer, Nicki Pearce, will change the pace of things with a yoga session.
  • Alicia Smith from Workcover will discuss simple things that we can do in our everyday farm activities, to protect our families, our farm workers and our farm visitors.
    • Pam Kensit, a farmer from Crookwell area has some colourful tips on how to deal with the everyday challenges of farm life. whilst coping with the added pressures of battling ovarian cancer, isolation and depression.
    • Tammy Holzheimmer, Solicitor Director, Commins Hendricks who will cover a range of common legal issues that rural businesses need to address within their enterprise and their family.

The workshop is an initiative of the Riverina Highlands Landcare Network and Riverina Local Land Services in collaboration with Tumut Shire Council, NSW Department of Primary Industries, Intereach, GrainCorp, Commins Hendricks and WorkCover.
