Continuing to grow partnerships with our local native plant nurseries

We can't Landcare without them. Strengthening partnerships with our local Landcare and community native plant nurseries.

Collaborations - LEP23-014-LLC08-1

The issue

One of the challenges we face in our local areas in the ability to source locally native plants for Landcare projects and sites. Landcarers are passionate about regenerating or revegetation sites with locally native plant species. Being able to use locally native plants means that locally native vegetation communities are more resilient to local climates, contain species that are found in those ecosystems and support the habitats of local fauna.

The solution

In order to facilitate Shoalhaven Landcare projects, we are in regular communication with our friends and colleagues at Milton Rural Landcare and Berry Public School nurseries. These two nurseries continue to supply the majority of locally native plants for Shoalhaven Landcare projects, and have done so for many years. We have a collaborative relationship. Shoalhaven Landcare support the nurseries with provision of locally native seed via some of our dedicated Landcarers. We also pay for locally native plants for projects utilising grant funding opportunities from various organisations.

Shoalhaven Landcare also support a shade house in Tapitallee which grows on locally native species to provide to Shoalhaven Landcare projects. We also support some of our other growers of locally native plants Whipbird Environmental, and Jamberoo Native Plant Nursery.

The impact

The benefits of this collaborative approach include:

-Shoalhaven Landcare planting locally native plants to support locally native vegetation communities

- Shoalhaven Landcare supporting habitats of locally native fauna

- The nurseries receiving support with seed to propagate a variety of locally native species

-Shoalhaven Landcare supporting our local native nurseries in purchasing plants for local projects

-A continuation of liaison and networking between all groups
