The issue

The lack of preparedness and resilience among rural communities in the face of drought can lead to prolonged social and economic issues.

Many residents struggle with personal, business, and community challenges during prolonged dry periods, exacerbating economic and emotional hardships.

This lack of resilience not only affects individual livelihoods but also undermines the overall stability and cohesion of the community.

The solution

By addressing these vulnerabilities, we aimed to equip individuals and businesses with tools and strategies to better withstand and recover from drought conditions, fostering a more resilient and sustainable community. The Walcha Resilience Dinner brought together community members to learn from experts.

The event featured guest speakers from Resilience Ready and the Lachlan Hughes Foundation who shared strategies on personal, business, and community resilience. Expert insights, practical tips, and shared experiences fostered a holistic approach to drought preparedness.

This initiative aimed to build stronger networks, enhance local knowledge, and provide actionable steps to improve overall resilience in the face of drought.

The impact

Twenty community members came together, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared purpose. Participants gained valuable insights on building personal, business, and community resilience.

The event strengthened local networks and provided practical strategies for drought preparedness. This is important because it equips individuals and businesses with the tools to better withstand and recover from drought, enhancing the community's overall stability and cohesion.

By promoting resilience, we reduce the long-term impact of drought on livelihoods and well-being, fostering a more sustainable and supportive community.
