Bird Walk Lane Cove Loop

This walk will focus on the bird diversity found along the Lane Cove River corridor downstream of the tidal weir, including the delightful Mowbray Park area.
  • When 24 Sep, 2016 from 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Australia/Sydney / UTC1008)
  • Add event to calendar iCal

We'll travel downstream along one side of the river, rising up into a flowering sandstone hillside alive with colour and blossom. We then return to the riverside, cross under the M2, and continue back upstream through the shade of large Coachwoods, before reaching the now reclaimed swampy areas of the historic Fairyland area. Through these diverse vegetation communities such as endangered saltmarsh, riverside mangroves to classic Sydney sandstone woodland, we'll endeavour to spot the rich birdlife that inhabit these fringes of our urban landscape beyond the ubiquitous Noisy Miner!

Grade: medium, total elevation change 175 m
Distance: 5.3 km (3 h 30 min)
Bring: binoculars (ideally 8 or 10 x 25 optics) and a keen set of eyes and ears!
Leader: Ross Rapmund
