The issue
This case study highlights a community-focused event where participants were introduced to WaterInsights, a platform managed by WaterNSW. The session provided guidance on how water is managed and shared across New South Wales, with a focus on the Peel Valley. The presentation aimed to equip local stakeholders with tools for understanding and tracking water resources effectively, fostering better water management practices in the region.
The challenge was to address a lack of community understanding regarding water allocation and management in the Peel Valley as part of the Namoi. With limited access to user-friendly tools for tracking water usage, many community members felt uninformed about how water is distributed and shared across NSW, hindering their ability to engage in water conservation efforts.
The solution
We organised a hands-on presentation led by WaterNSW expert Kate Masters, where participants were introduced to the WaterInsights platform. Attendees brought their own devices, allowing them to explore the website in real-time. The session provided practical, step-by-step guidance, focusing on Peel Valley-specific data and empowering participants to use the platform to monitor water resources independently.
The impact
Participants left the session equipped with a clear understanding of the WaterInsights platform and how it can be used to track water allocation and usage. This knowledge enables them to make informed decisions about water management. By fostering greater transparency and understanding, the event contributes to more engaged and proactive water stewardship within the community.
