An evening at the cinema
How Tweed Landcare partnered with Balangara Films, The Regent Cinema Murwillumbah, Tweed Shire Council and local artists to deliver a great evening of talks and a Film that reached a new audience.
Collaborations - LP-022-004
The issue
We were concerned about the large numbers of environmentally-minded people in our area who are unaware of Tweed Landcare. We were looking for a way to connect with this cohort and raise awareness of what we do and how to get involved.
The solution
When Balangara Films approached us to host their film 'The Message of the Lyrebird,' we quickly recognised it as an excellent opportunity to engage a broader range of environmentally-minded people in our community.
Working collaboratively with Balangara Films was great, as they were always willing to answer questions and provided a comprehensive host screening kit.
Fortunately, our local cinema, The Regent, is open to collaborating with community organizations and generously offers discounts for nonprofits. This ensured that we could host the event without financial risk.
Furthermore, our colleagues at the local Council were supportive of the event, as it aligned with their ongoing Lyrebird project as were the Alberts Lyrebird Conservancy- both organisations spoke at the event.
As promotion began, local artists with lyrebird-inspired artworks approached us, and their pieces were showcased in the foyer.
Additionally, we took the opportunity during the event to promote our activities and present a video highlighting our flagship program, 'Filling the Biodiversity Gap: Connecting Tweed Coast to the Border Ranges.'
The impact
The evening was a great success. The film and talks were very well received and made some money to support Tweed Landcare activities.
