The issue
Many of the Walgett Regenerative Grazing Group members run mixed farming enterprises. Following their first harvest in 4 years, which was extremely average (even given good fallow moisture), the group recognised that they needed to access specialised information regarding soil and re-generative practices for their upcoming 2021 winter cereal and pulse crops.
The solution
One of the group members had an existing relationship with Brent Burns from Biosoil Solutions. Given his knowledge of the area, and word of mouth recommendations, Brent was selected to host a three hour Zoom session on improving soil health.
The impact
A group of 15 growers from Walgett, Coonamble, Nyngan, Lightning Ridge and Burren Junction met in person at the Walgett Sporting Club (and over Zoom) to speak with Brett. Brett covered soil structure and soil biology in depth. Clear take home messages were given about how to improve/increase soil biology and how to supplement the populations with compost and compost extractions.
Learnings
