Rural Aid Community Consultation

Peter Kenyon hosts 2 day community consultation re: Beautification and Betterment of Walgett

Capacity to Deliver - LP025-04

The issue

NWPSG worked together with the CWA to secure Walgett as one of the 2020 Rural Aid '10 Towns' Project. Unfortunately, COVID-19 postponed all events until 2021. Step One in the Rural Aid project was a community consultation with Peter Kenyon from the Bank of Ideas.

The solution

Approximately 45 community members met with Peter in a series of 2.5 hr small target group sessions over two days to create a 'Community Development Action Plan'. The plan addresses the community's story, vision, guiding principals, goals and challenges, and eight clear and detailed themes were developed, identifying what people see as necessary for Walgett moving forward; socially, culturally and economically.

The impact

The impact of this document will be seen for years to come and it can be used as an accompanying document for all community and Shire groups making grant applications moving forward.
It has also led to the initial stages of the development of a Walgett Community Development Association - a steering committee of interested groups and passionate residents. This has been a slow process, but the dedication of those involved will ensure its success.
