Green Day 2016 - Healthy Minds, Healthy Environments

Watershed Landcare is proud to share with you the fun and engaging line-up we’ve developed for our 8th Annual Green Day. Green Day involves 600 Year five and six students from 16 schools around the region coming together to learn about the environment and our community. This year’s theme ‘Healthy Minds, Healthy Environments’, aims to make the link between the health of people, and the health of the environment. It also aims to increase the capacity and resilience of young people in engaging with the environment and their community.

Springing into Spring with Watershed Landcare’s Green Day - Healthy Minds, Healthy Environments

Watershed is very pleased to announce our keynote speakers, the 2016 Young Australian’s of the Year, Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett; the founders of Orange Sky Laundry. Lucas and Nic realised at a young age the importance of committing to dreams and participating in their communities, and successfully managed to integrate these into their key project, Orange Sky Laundry. Launched in 2014 and now operating in nine cities across Australia, Orange Sky Laundry offers a free mobile clothes washing and drying service for the homeless. Additional information about Orange Sky Laundry can be found at http://www.orangeskylaundry.com.au/.

In addition to our keynote speaker the day will have the following highlights;

  • Art workshops leading to the contribution of a sculpture to Rosby Sculptures in the Garden

  • ‘Laughing yoga’ sessions including one big combined session at the end of the day with all 600 students.

  • Drumming workshops

  • Sensory activities

  • Juggling

  • Planting and environment workshops

This year, Green Day is being held at Mudgee Showground, between 10 and 2 on Thursday, 1 September 2016.
