600 students turning green
In 2016, not only will 1 September signify the beginning of spring, but it is also the date of Watershed Landcare’s 8th Annual Green Day.
Green Day involves 600 year five and six students from 16 schools in the Mid-Western Regional Council area coming together to learn about the environment and community.
“This year’s theme ‘Healthy Environment, Healthy Community’ is not only focussing on health of the environment but will also focus on fostering wellness and resilience of individuals.” said Vivien Howard, Watershed Landcare's Green Day Co-ordinator.
The Green Day environmental expo for kids aims to provide a fun learning experience where primary school students from across our region come together at Mudgee Showground to learn about various topics.
Students will attend a keynote address and three 25 minute workshops from 18 different presenters. Presenters come from a range of various business and government organisations.
“This year, we’ve got a broad and engaging line-up of presenters focussed around five key themes: wellness, eating fresh, healthy environment, sensory activities and art workshops.” said Ms Howard.
“The workshops include drumming sessions, laughing yoga, juggling, tree planting and learning about the function of healthy ecosystems.” she continued.
Green Day is the biggest event on the Watershed Landcare callendar and a huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes to pull this off. It wouldn't be possible without the help and support of our sponsors, presenters and volunteers.
Watershed Landcare is always looking for volunteers to help with set-up and pack-down, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly on the day. If you have some spare time to help out on Wednesday 31 August or Thursday 1 September – we’d love to hear from you.
We are very proud of the fact that every year 5 and 6 student in our region can participate as Green Day is a fully subsidised event. This is only possible through the continued, generous support of our sponsors, including Mid-Western Regional Council, Wilpinjong Coal Mine, Moolarben Coal, Central Tablelands Local Land Services and the Country Women’s Association.
If you like to be know more about Green Day or you’d like to be involved, please contact Vivien Howard on 0488 224 025 or by email at vhoward@niche-eh.com.
This event is supported by Watershed Landcare and is part of the NSW Government’s Local Landcare Coordinators Initiative, supported through the partnership of Local Land Services and Landcare NSW.
