Mid-Western Regional Council recognised excellence in our community at the 2016 Australia Day Awards ceremony. Watershed Landcare was commended for it's annual Environmental Expo, Green Day, winning the Environment award category.
Each year, Green Day brings together some 600 year 5 and 6 students, from the Mid-Western Regional Council area and beyond, for a day of fun and learning.
Green Day Coordinator, Vivien Howard, accepted the award on Watershed Landcare's behalf at the awards ceremony held at ANZAC Memorial Park, Gulgong on Tuesday.
“Green Day is a truly collaborative effort. Members of the community are involved in the planning of the event, as presenters, and volunteer their time to make sure everything goes without a hitch on the the day.” said Watershed Landcare Coordinator, Agness Knapik.
Since it's inception in 2009, Green Day has promoted environmental awareness and sustainable living through exploring themes such as 'Just Add Water', 'From Little Things Big Things Grow', and in 2015, 'Digging Deeper', celebrating the United Nations International Year of Soils.
“Watershed Landcare would like to thank Mid-Western Regional Council, Peabody Energy, Yancoal, Central Tablelands Local Land Services and Landcare Australia for their support in making last year's Green Day such a success.” said Ms Knapik.
“Green Day is the single biggest event hosted by Wateshed Landcare. We will continue to work with local businesses, organisations and the community to ensure that it can go on as a fully subsidised event, inspiring our next generation of farmers, scientists and natural resource managers, long into the future.” she continued.
Planning for this year's Green Day will shortly begin.
