The Landholder Rehabilitation grants program is a joint initiative between Mid-Western Regional Council and Watershed Landcare and seeks to support property owners to implement on ground works which aim to improve our local river systems and properties within Mid-Western Regional area.

“These grants are an opportunity for landholders to implement on-ground projects to improve or increase their native vegetation. It’s great that MWRC and Watershed Landcare can partner to build on existing investments.” said Claudia Wythes, Watershed Landcare Co-ordinator and Landholder Rehabilitation grants program Project Support Officer.

Two streams of funding are available through the Mid-Western Regional Council Landholder Rehabilitation Grants Program 2016.

Stream 1 is targeting river restoration, with 3 grants up to the value of $5,000 each.

Stream 2 provides a total of $10,000 worth of funding for revegetation projects. Landholders can apply for grants from $500-$2,500 in value.

River rehabilitation grants are targeted towards rural property owners and community groups within the Mid-Western Regional Council Local Government Area.

Projects that might be funded include:

    • revegetation

    • cleaning up waterways

    • control of weeds and pest animals

    • exclusion fencing

    • installation of erosion control structures

“With the recent rain events across the region, the riparian grants are perfect for landholders to repair any damage and improve the stability of their waterways to better cope with future falls.” said Ms Wythes.

“At the completion of the projects, we will be looking to hold workshops at some of the sites to enable other landholders to learn from what has been done.” she continued.
