  • Attendees Residents and landholders of the Young Shire
  • Add event to calendar iCal

The event will be held in Arboretum Park at the southern end of Main St, Young, alongside Burrangong Creek.

The plant giveaway is part of a project titled Microbats in the Young Shire - habitat enhancement and community awareness, which is funded by Riverina Local Land Services under their Community Partnerships Program. The funding will provide improved habitat for microbats by installing sixty microbat roosting/nesting and planting local native plants throughout Young.

Because microbats are found in all habitats throughout the Young Shire, including town gardens and backyards, Young District Landcare decided to distribute the plants to the community to increase community awareness and participation in the project.

The trees and shrubs will provide future habitat for microbats, which are sometimes referred to as insectivorous bats.

There will also be information material about microbats for residents to take home.

The plant giveaway also marks the start of Bird Week and the plants will also provide great habitat for local native birds.
