Mel Kiel

Mel Kiel

Hello!

I am the Regional Landcare Coordinator (RLC) for the Central West Region, my name is Mel Kiel and I am passionate about healthy landscapes and resilient rural communities.

I am a grazier in the Central West with my husband and 2 teenage girls and spent the last 8 years as the Project Officer for Little River Landcare at Yeoval- a rewarding position which I gained a vast amount of knowledge from, which now guides me as a Regional Coordinator!

RLC Goals:

  • Whether it be grazing & crop management, native bushlands, livestock management, waterways or the health of rural communities the RLC plays a role in identifying, supporting, connecting and encouraging Natural Resource Management (NRM) principles & community resilience, frequently collaborating with local government departments, private educators & not-for-profit organisations to deliver results for the region both environmentally and socially.

The Region:

  • The Central West Region covers a broad area, with 8 Local Landcare Coordinators in place including: Coonamble, Narromine, Dunedoo-Coolah, Wellington, Parkes, Grenfell, Condobolin & Lake Cargelligo. The groups vary across the landscape and run many events throughout the year including women's interests, pest management, drum musters, mental health workshops, bee keeping, Indigenous connections, farmers markets & NRM topics to name just a few.
