Talkin Turtle

The Eastern Long-necked Turtle, a newly appointed mascot for the Parramatta River is very active throughout November and December - but this is also a dangerous time for turtles as they leave the safety of the river to nest.

What Caves tell us about Climate

Professor Andy Baker from UNSW Australia will present the STEP lecture where he will explain how cave stalagmites can tell us about past and present climate. Formed from water dripping into the cave, they contain chemical records of the surface rainfall, and its interactions with the soil and rock.

Vale of Clwydd Community Planting Day

Vale of Clwydd Community Tree Planting - Your local Landcare group needs your help The Vale of Clwydd community planting day has become an annual event. This year we aim to plant 500 native plants to improve bank stability, downstream water quality and habitat values. Our objective is to replace the weeds infesting the area with a mix of native wetland species. Our creeks are essential to provide habitat and corridors for the birds and wildlife - they also help to make it nice place for people to live! The community planting day is supported by Lithgow Oberon Landcare Association, Lithgow City Council and Local Land Services. All community members are invited to come along to show we care about our local creek and to plant some native plants followed by a sausage sizzle lunch. Michelago Landcare to visit Scottsdale Reserve

Scottsdale Reserve is a 1,328-hectare nature reserve between the Monaro Highway and the Murrumbidgee River, about 24 km south of Michelago village. Bush Heritage Australia bought the former sheep property in 2006 and now manages it. It is part of the Kosciuszko to Coast (K2C) project that aims to connect remnant habitat from Namadgi National Park in the west to the coastal ranges in the east. Manager Phil Palmer will be showing Landcarers and anyone else interested around the reserve.
