Grazing for the Future

Central Tablelands Landcare is about to launch a Grazing for the Future workshop series with the aim to encourage sustainable grazing practises in our district. Landcare coordinator Sally  Kirby explains that the workshop series will “explore grazing management, look into pasture cropping and promote biodiversity on farms in the Central Tablelands Landcare district”.  Sally has enlisted the help of renowned grazing guru - Graeme Hand from STIPA and the eminent Col Seis from “Winona” to discover the principles of grazing management including pasture identification, monitoring, feed budgeting, animal behaviour, animal performance, and how grazing animals are important for healthy landscape function.  The project will have three grazing management sessions over the next twelve months, two this spring - to establish the group, to explore pasture identification and monitoring methods and set up some trial areas on properties. A final session is planned for spring 2016 to report on the the trials and establish future direction for the group.  Sally said that the group also has “a rare opportunity to tour Col Seis’ impressive “Winona” property at Gulgong to learn first hand about Col’s 20 years experience in pasture cropping”.  The first workshop is on 18th September 2015 -if you are keen to be involved please contact Sally Kirby at centraltablelandslandcare@gmail.com or on 0416 255 065.
