Watershed Landcare has partnered with North East Wiradjuri Co & Capertee Valley Landcare to bring you a fun-filled day out in the bush! Come along and immerse yourself in this breathtaking location, lend a hand cleaning up and participate in the Great Southern Bio Blitz!

What is a Bioblitz?
A BioBlitz is a snapshot study of a specific location, where scientists and the community work together to survey and record as many species of flora, fauna, fungi and aquatic life within a nominated time frame. We'll spend an hour documenting as many species at this biodiverse location. Recent wildlife cameras at this location have captured Koalas, Lizards and a huge diversity of bird life. There are lots of interesting plants, bugs and spiders to record too!

The reserve has a long history of rubbish dumping, and the junk hidden deep in the forest is astounding. It's quite interesting; like a trash treasure hunt, we've found old glass bottles, vintage household items, rusted lamps, car parts and other random stuff. Come and see what you can find while helping the bush heal!

Important notes:

  • Arrive at the Cultural Centre in Kandos at 9AM sharp for departure by bus to the reserve (limited parking at the reserve).

  • The reserve is along Bylong Valley way, about a 15-minute drive from Rylstone.

  • Please, BYO packed lunch and lots of water! Some sweet treats and fruit will be provided.

  • Please make sure you have iNaturalist app downloaded on your smartphone and your account set up.
There is no phone reception at the reserve.

  • You will need gloves and a rubbish bag - we have some spare but if you can bring your own that is great!
recycled animal feed bags or hessian bags work great

We look forward to seeing you there!
