Local Landcare Nurseries Collaborate for a Greener Future
This week, volunteers and staff from the Central Tablelands Local Landcare Nursery, Watershed Landcare Nursery, and Lithgow Community Nursery came together for a successful meeting to share knowledge, and ideas, and learn from each other. This gathering is part of a Regional Project by the Central Tablelands Regional Landcare Network, aimed at fostering collaboration and supporting Landcare efforts across the region.
The meeting's roots stem from a growing demand for large-scale plant orders, which individual nurseries often find challenging to fulfill due to limited staff, volunteers, and space. However, by working together, sharing resources, and exchanging knowledge, these nurseries are exploring ways to meet these goals collectively.
A key theme discussed at the meeting was the unique and vital role Landcare nurseries play in their communities. Unlike commercial nurseries, Landcare nurseries pride themselves on offering expert advice tailored to local planting needs. They use seeds sourced from local plants, ensuring that their stock is not only in top condition when delivered but also suited to the local climate, soil types, and wildlife. This approach significantly increases the likelihood of successful growth and contributes to the health of local ecosystems.
Through collaboration and shared efforts, the Central Tablelands’ Landcare nurseries are taking meaningful steps toward enhancing their capacity while maintaining their core commitment to supporting communities with sustainable, locally-sourced planting solutions.
It was a day of inspiration and progress, demonstrating the power of teamwork in growing a greener future. 🌱✨
We were especially grateful to the Lithgow Community Nursery for hosting us at their fantastic facilities. Their team provided a warm welcome, gave us an insightful tour of their operations, and showcased the incredible plants they are growing. It was an inspiring highlight of the day!
