Condobolin Grazing Network

Resilient Grazing Support Group

Capacity building

The issue

With so many climate changes impacting on our land and businesses, Condobolin and Districts Landcare thought it would be beneficial in the community create a Resilient Grazing Support Group within the Condobolin district to assist and support landholders in improving the drought resilience of their farms through education and experimentation of natural resources management practices, systems and approaches. The Grazing Group intends to help landholders to look at and synergise to find better ways to become resilient in the face of future climate variability and risk, particular focus will be made on rotational grazing principles.

The solution

The Condobolin Grazing Group was formed within the Condobolin Community and has been meeting regularly on various local properties to help support each other with problems that are arising on farm whether it is though grazing stock or drought related erosion. Problems are addressed and discussed and through the group getting together and talking about these arising problems due to climate changes solutions and suggestions are formed.

The impact

The Grazing Group have now a strong regular following that enables them to discuss subjects in relation to climate change and grazing strategies, its extremely beneficial for the group to come together as they are able to see and demonstrate difference practices and strategies that are working for them and be able to share their knowledge and educate others.

Through the formation of the Grazing Group networks have been established and strengthened between stakeholders who partner and share responsibility for managing natural resources including private and public land managers, this improves connectedness and diversity of approaches across the landscape.

Learnings

The following outcomes have been noted :

Natural Resource Management's improved in Australian Agriculture landscapes in ways that support primary producers capacity to prepare for and respond to future droughts and climate change.

Primary producers and other land managers are enable to experiment with adaptive or transformative NRM practices, systems and approaches that can build drought resilience in agricultural landscapes.

Increased whole of community awareness is raised, the Grazing Group will help educate the whole of community about the economic aspects of drought resilience of farms and the social drought resilience of communities in agriculture areas.
