Khancoban Landcare Group: Platypus in the Swampy Plains River
Khancoban Landcare Group are delivering 2 aspects to this project:
1) eDNA monitoring of platypus within 5 selected sites along the Swampy Plains River, Khancoban, 4 above the spillway of the Khancoban Pondage Dam and 1 below the spillway.
This will be done on 2 separate occasions. The monitoring results will then be shared with the community.
2) A public event/field day combined will include awareness around natural assets and
how they can aid platypus populations, for example stable banks for burrows and connective water ways (creeks and rivers). Threats to platypus populations will also be highlighted, including fishing entanglement, extreme weather – droughts, floods, forestry operations, habitat loss and vegetation removal, (waterways) and pest plant and animals.
