Practical Support When It’s Dry

Dry Times Smart Moves Webinar Series

The issue

When things get dry, the workload on-farm multiplies and stress levels rise. Finding the time to drop everything and drive to a traditional field day or workshop can be a huge hurdle for most producers, even when they badly need the information. Last year, local landholders needed clear, reliable advice on feed budgeting, livestock management, and animal health, but they needed it delivered in a way that fit around daily farm operations.

The solution

To bridge the gap, we ran the Dry Times Smart Moves webinar series which resulted in bringing practical expert advice directly to kitchen tables across the district. We held three online sessions, allowing farmers to log in and look out for their business without having to leave home.

We teamed up with Murray Local Land Services to make sure the information was highly relevant to our local conditions. Each session featured a different guest speaker focusing on key seasonal management decisions. The Murray LLS team also provided live Farming Forecaster updates on soil moisture and pasture growth, while the local District Vet was on hand during every session to answer specific livestock health and nutrition questions on the spot.

The impact

The series was a highly effective way to keep our farming community connected and supported through a drought. By taking the event online, we reached busy producers who simply couldn’t have made it to an in-person meeting.

Attendees came away with practical strategies for livestock containment, feed rates, and managing seasonal health risks. If you missed them or want a refresher, the recordings are still a great resource for our region and all three webinars remain available to watch anytime on YouTube.
