Fish info day at Lake Cargelligo

Officers from NSW Fisheries and Lake Cargelligo Landcare co-hosted an all-things-fishy morning on 12 March 2022

Community Participation - LP049-005

The issue

Within the local community, a growing number of queries relating to changes and updates to recreational fishing rules led to the workshop being convened by Lake Cargelligo Landcare and NSW Fisheries.

The solution

The workshop was well-attended by approximately 40 interested anglers and other local community members. Following a demonstration of research techniques currently being used (fyke nets), Fisheries officers Terry and Lachlan Steele did a presentation inside the Boat Club at Lake Cargelligo that included all relevant laws and regulations that apply to recreational fishing in the Lachlan.

The impact

All participants agreed the workshop morning was valuable, particularly as all were able to ask questions regarding size and bag limits and the reporting process for breaches of the Fisheries Act. The Fisheries officers also expressed their appreciation and agreed that holding such a events semi-regularly would be a sensible idea.

Learnings

The event was extremely successful and another will likely be held at a similar time next year. The format - hands-on research 'fishing' followed by a talk with a slide show from the Fisheries officers, will be retained in the future.
