The aim of this workshop is to introduce land owners and community members to our native bees, and better understand the importance of both honey bees and native bees in our landscape. The workshop will be a mix of presentations and hands on learning.

Topics covered during the day will include:

  • Importance of pollinators/bees in our ecosystems and farming systems
  • Plant / bee co-evolution
  • Honey bees' role in food security and why we need some alternative pollinators
  • Australia's native solitary and semi-social bees
  • How food producers can benefit from supporting native bees
  • Recognising different pollinators and strategies for monitoring bee activity
