The issue

The WMLIG identified opportunities to improve the quality of evaluation and feedback for reporting, needs assessment and improvement of the groups’ delivery program during a strategic planning exercise.

The solution

The Group successfully applied for funds for evaluation resources including a software program, interactive keypads (clickers), data projector, screen and laptop computer through the Murray Local Land Services Community Grants Program.

The resources obtained were designed to be compatible with existing evaluation equipment used by Landcare, industry groups and agencies in the region. The compatibility of the equipment allows integration of devices so that resources can be pooled when large events are held in the region.

The impact

The resources are used to gather a range of information at events to evaluate performance, level of knowledge gained, likelihood of practice change uptake and ascertain where resources should be directed in the future to address community needs.

Capacity building outcomes via evaluation statistics are sent to event sponsors to provide feedback on the return on investment in the community, which further leverages support for Landcare initiatives in the long term.

Learnings

The rate of evaluation feedback has improved significantly with up to 100% of participants responding. The keypads are easier and quicker to use than written responses and are interactive giving participants instant feedback on group consensus, making the evaluation process more engaging.
