The restoration of the Wingecarribee River riparian zone is a major focus of the Southern Highland Landcare Network. Apical Delivers final Weeds Workshop in Araluen Creek Series
In Landcare, we've seen that if we don’t deal with our weeds early, they can become entrenched and much harder to manage. It's therefore important to know what weed threats are emerging and the best ways to deal with them. To address this issue, on Saturday 25 February 2023, Upper Deua Catchment Landcare and USLC hosted their second workshop on practical weed control at the Araluen Campground. This workshop was the final instalment in the Araluen Creek Restoration series, bringing back weed expert Daniel Anderson of Apical and assistant Jake Proust. This time the focus was on an emergent creeper in the Valley - Madeira vine - as well as blackberry and invasive grasses.

Upper Shoalhaven Climate-Ready Revegetation Project
The ravages of drought, fire and flood have made their presence felt over the past few years, with significant impact on life, landscape and native vegetation. Dieback and loss of tree cover are becoming more apparent. From the widespread death of Eucalyptus viminalis on the Monaro, to severe dieback of Eucalyptus blakelyi in the ACT, and a nationwide citizen science project from ‘Dead Tree Detectives’ mapping tree death and determining causes, the trend is increasingly clear.
Araluen Creek Restoration Project – Update October 2022
Woohoo we are almost ready to rock and roll on the big soil erosion works, the key part of the Araluen Creek Restoration Project! Rock, well we have about 460 tonnes of rock ready to be put in place. Roll, and yep we have to roll about 29 truck loads of root logs and quite a few tree trunks into place. Thankfully big machines will do this once the ground is dry enough. With modern day computer apps can we set the time lapse footage to some good old rock ‘n’ roll music. Interesting concept, looking for creative assistance.
