Direct seeding

Where there is heavy pasture presence, e.g. Phalaris, scalp a wider area to avoid competition.
Another option where there is heavy pasture pressure is to rip a line and then it’s very easy just to scalp a little bit of dirt away by hand. The act of ripping reduces the pasture pressure for some time and the tree seed is placed in a firmed down spot within the rip line.
Where there is little pasture pressure, for instance on rocky hilltops, or in native grass areas, do a little bit of hand scalping at the spot before dropping the seed down the hollow handle. This is very quick and easy.
